Windy Apple Farms is a small homestead located in central New York in the small hamlet of Sheds. We have a heritage apple orchard, small duck flock, and collect a variety of forest products.

Windy Apple Farms Logo

We are happy to finally unveil our official logo for Windy Apple Farms. Work on this logo started almost a year ago by our friend Coralee McNee . Before working with Coralee, we had made some rough drafts of a logo, including a fantastically bad first attempt by myself in powerpoint. By working with a professional we were able to jot down a few key features we wanted to highlight in the logo: - an apple (obviously) - some indication of wind - some indication of seasonality - round shape (so it fits in our Instagram profile photo nicely!) A few highlights from Coralee’s Instagram feed are below, where you can see the progress of the logo as it went through some initial sketches and color profiles before finally reaching the logo that we are proud to be sharing today! Apple Blossom Time

Our apple trees are in full bloom this week. The sun and warmth over the last two days have made almost every blossom pop. We seem to have been lucky and the freezing temperatures overnight last week, 26F, did not do any significant damage. The woods are now a riot of white and pink and the air is smelling very sweet. S L XL All of our apples are untended and overgrown; some are more than 20 feet tall. Most of our trees are on the southwest slope facing the field and pond, over 50 on this slope alone. These trees are also interspersed with young hawthorns, which makes getting to them quite tricky. We have other apple trees scattered throughout the woods, along our back-fence row, and even a few up under the pine grove. We have begun the task of tagging each tree, we plan to record the apple type (as best we can) in the fall and then collect scion wood for grafting from our favorites. Maple Tapping

With all the warm weather we have been having here on the hill it feels late to be tapping but we are actually right on schedule with our maple syrup plan. Our new to us boiler is up at the cabin and ready to go and our new tube and bucket collection system is on the trees. Aesthetically I really like the look of the old galvanized buckets in the woods but for practicality and easy of set up these can’t be beat. We will boil our first batch this weekend! Its nice to finally have some assistance when drilling the taps. The new boiler setup works pretty well! Our finished product
